The Proposal

S & I have been discussing marriage for awhile. Although we have only been dating for almost 10 months now, both of us knew early on into our relationship that we were the "right" ones for each other. When you know, you know!

Because both of us come from traditional Indian families, we knew we had to make sure our parents approved. We both told our parents around the same time and both families were ecstatic! We even set a date, and began booking venues. However, I was still expecting a proper proposal from S!

A couple of weeks before the proposal, S asked me to keep Sunday June 19 free for him, saying he wanted to do something different that day. I had already booked an appointment for that day and he asked me over and over to change it. This is the point I think I should have clued in, but I didn't. I changed the appointment and from that day on S kept telling me about the weather on Sunday. He was concerned because he wanted us to go to Grouse Mountain (the peak of Vancouver). He would get excited and happy when the weather network said it would be sunny, and then be equally disappointed when the weather networks said clouds and rain! I thought he was being silly and told him we can do an indoor activity that would be equally as fun.

Sunday June 19 came and the sky was full of clouds. I tried to give S other ideas of what we could do on that day, but nothing seemed to make him happy. Sensing his disappointment, I said let's just go to Grouse Mountain. So what if we get a little wet? What's the big deal? S became so excited hearing this and said he would pick me up in an hour.

We got to Grouse Mountain and the rain started to come down. S looked skeptical, but I persisted and said we're here now, so let's take the skyride up. We got up to the mountain and we could see nothing. The usual breathtaking views of Vancouver one would normally see on Grouse Mountain were nowhere to be found. Clouds, mist and fog surrounded us. I tried to keep up our spirits and told S we would have lunch on the mountain and if the weather got better we would walk around. We both agreed though that this was highly unlikely!

While we were enjoying lunch, S said he had something to give me. He pulled out the ring from his pocket and asked me to marry him! Of course, I said yes. He then began to tell me how his whole plan was to propose outside on the mountain while both of us were enjoying the beautiful view of Vancouver. I finally began to piece everything together. Despite the bad weather, I was so excited! I was speechless, giddy and surprised all at the same time. He had chosen a beautiful ring and a beautiful location to propose.

Here's a picture of us right after he proposed.

And now the planning begins!
